What we collect, why we collect it, and how to get rid of it

Last Updated: November 04, 2026

The short version: we keep what we need to run LA Rank, we do not sell it, and we do not pass it to third parties for their own use. There are no hidden trackers on this site. Everything below is the detail behind that promise, written in normal English.

1. What we collect

Four kinds of information, and nothing else:

  • Your account. Your name, your email address, your password (stored scrambled with a one-way hash, so nobody here can read it) and, if you upload one, a profile picture.
  • Your listings. The websites you add: the domain, the title, the description, the category, the tags and any banner image you upload. If you use the "claim an existing listing" flow, we also keep the token we gave you and the result of the ownership check.
  • Traffic records. When the tracking snippet on your website is loaded, we save the IP address it came from, the time it happened and which listing it belongs to. That is how we count unique visitors, one of the two numbers a listing's ranking can be based on. We also record clicks out of a listing and upvotes on it, with the same IP and timestamp.
  • Money records. If you log a deposit, we keep the amount you typed, the reference or transaction hash you gave us, the screenshot of the payment you attach, the note you wrote and whether our team accepted it. The screenshot is stored on our server and is only opened by the administrator reviewing your deposit. We do not collect or store card numbers, because this site never takes card payments directly.
  • Support messages. When you write through the support form, we save the name, email address, subject and message you typed, plus the IP address and browser string that came with the request. The message is stored in our own database and read in the admin inbox — it is not forwarded to any outside service.

2. How we use it

  • To work out the rankings. Traffic records and upvotes are turned into a score. That score decides the order of the category boards. Without this data there is no leaderboard.
  • To show you your own analytics. Your dashboard charts your visitor counts, your score breakdown and where you sit on the board. Only you and the site team can see the detail of your listings.
  • To award badges. A badge is a small image with the listing's position on it, meant to be put on the listing's own website. It contains a rank and a number, and nothing about the person looking at it.
  • To keep the board honest. The same IP data is what our anti-cheat checks read. They look for patterns like one IP hitting one listing hundreds of times, and they raise a flag for our team to review. We do not delete your traffic to punish you - a human decides.
  • To run your account. Login, password resets, emails about your listings, and the deposit review queue.

3. Cookies

This site sets one cookie we need, and nothing else:

  • The session cookie. It is how we know you are still logged in as you move from page to page, and it is how forms are protected against forged submissions. It expires on its own, and logging out clears it.
  • The consent note. The popup at the bottom of the page saves your answer in your browser's local storage under the name cookie_consent. It is text, not a cookie, it never travels to our server, and it holds nothing about you — just the fact that you answered and when. It is what stops the popup appearing on every page.

You can change your mind at any time: the Cookie Settings link in the footer reopens the popup. Clearing your browser's site data removes the note and the popup will ask again. We do not set advertising cookies, and no other company gets to drop a cookie through this site. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time; the only thing that will break is staying logged in.

4. Companies that handle your data for us

Today, none. There is no analytics service reading this site, there are no advertising networks, there is no social media pixel and no data broker. The only outside service involved is the one that sends our emails (the mail server your provider gives us), and it only sees what any mail server sees: the address, the subject and the message. Support messages stay on our server: they are saved in our own database and read in the admin inbox, so a bounced email can no longer lose a message.

If we ever add something like a visitor-stats service, this page will name it here, and the cookie popup will mention it, before it is switched on. Money is handled by hand: you send a payment, you log it on your wallet page, a person on our team checks it against what arrived, and only then is your balance credited.

5. What you can ask us to do

  • See your data. Most of it is already on your screen: your profile, your listings and your analytics. For anything else, ask and we will send you a copy.
  • Correct it. You can edit your profile, your listings and your listing details yourself at any time. If something is locked, ask us and we will fix it.
  • Delete it. Deleting your account from the profile page removes the account and its listings. Your traffic history goes with it. Note that archived Hall of Fame entries are a permanent record of a finished month and are not edited afterwards.
  • Object. If you think a listing of yours is being ranked or flagged unfairly, tell us and a person will look at it.

We keep account and traffic records for as long as your account exists, because the ranking is built on them. Traffic detail older than the retention window is deleted automatically by the platform's own cleanup job.

6. Questions about privacy

Write to us through the support form and put "privacy" in the subject or the message. A person - not a bot - reads it, and we answer privacy questions as a priority. Your message is stored in our admin inbox, so it will not disappear if an email bounces; ask us to delete it once we have answered and we will. If you are asking about a specific account, use the email address on that account so we can find you.

We may update this page when the platform changes. The date at the top always shows the last time it changed, and material changes are announced to members by email.
